Symphoria

Embark on a journey through the musical dimension in this exploration game.

The movements of the romantic symphony orchestra are directly linked to your movements through the colourful abstract space. Pay attention to the sounds as they are vital to solving the puzzles and reaching the finale.

This Game was made by Martin Magni(Programming, Artwork, Game-Design) and Jan Flessel (Music, Game-Design) in 2 weeks during the Castle Game Jam 2016.

Developed with C++ and Wwise

The Game was made using a custom engine written in C++ and including the Sound-Engine Wwise.

7 different envelopes for the String-Tremolo Sound in Level 2 and 5

Wwise as a Sampler-Instrument: The random containers(left) loop a specific loudness of the trombone tone. The Loudness is then controlled via the Blend-Track at the bottom.

We wanted to experiment if the player would be able to explore a certain area guided almost only by music and indeed would be able to solve puzzles triggered by musical events.

To do this we tracked the players position and distance to certain point of interests or let the player interact with buttons. I tried to write "musical puzzles" which the player would have to solve to proceed to the next room. The musical Material would devolve around very simple, hopefully easy to discover, elements like crescendo, instrumentation or at the most complex point a chord.

To link the gameplay to the music and to make the music feel organic we used Wwise to create a very simple Sample-Instrument, so the game would react like a music instrument.
